The NSW Government has passed Legislation for Pool Barriers in the interest of saving the lives of young children. This legislation is enforced by local councils, and requires pool or spa owners to take two important steps:
Firstly, as of 29 October 2013, all pools and spas should have been registered. Property owners should be aware that failure to register your pool can incur a fine of $220.00.
You can and should register your pool at www.swimmingpoolregister.nsw.gov.au
Secondly, anyone selling or leasing a residential property with a pool or spa after 29 April 2016, must attach a valid Pool Compliance Certificate to the contract for sale or lease. You may only apply for a Pool or Spa Compliance Certificate once your pool is registered at the link above.
